Our geotechnical engineers and geologists are specialists in detecting, diagnosing, and correcting for the geologic hazards of the Puget Sound region. Most often, these hazards are only broadly identified on local jurisdictional maps, so reviewing agencies know when to request a specific type of geologic or geotechnical study. We have the expertise to recognize potential site issues and address them before they become construction problems.

Landslide Hazards. Landslide hazards may occur in areas where there is documentation of past landslide activity or the land includes an inclined slope and one or more subsurface conditions that could result in common landslide activities.

Steep Slope Hazard. Risks related to steep slopes occur in areas identified as having an inclination greater than a specific slope angle and a minimum vertical relief as specified in local guidelines.

Seismic Hazards. Seismic risks are found in areas subject to soil instability during an earthquake. The most common seismic hazard is soil that is potentially liquefiable. The greatest concern of liquefaction is the sudden loss of bearing capacity under a structure.

Erosion Hazards. These hazards occur in sloping areas with specific types of soil conditions that cause erosion to occur. Erosion hazards can significantly differ depending on the vegetative cover of the slope.
